The College Minivan Part 5

Saturday 21st September

The big day arrived for applying the final colour coat to the Van.  After much deliberation and checking with what little original paint I could find, the colour chosen was BLMC Cumulus Grey, coded GR39.  It consists of black, yellow ochre, white and red oxide.  Two and a half litres of 2 pack were mixed and Frank donned his suit and pressure-fed mask to apply the paint over my handywork.  He emerged from the booth some time later for a top up and reported all was well.  After around 40 minutes of spraying, he left the booth for the final time and set the oven to the bake cycle.  Following a few cups of coffee and a general tidy-up in the workshop, it was time for me to have a look at the result.  It looked fantastic and certainly worth all of the effort I had put in.  Unfortunately, I will be unable to go back to reassemble it all for a while, as I have to go into hospital for an operation, but I certainly have something to look forward to!

The wheels are in need of some work, so I will probably remove the tyres and have them sand-blasted and then finish them in the correct silver colour for the MK2 Vans.
